Default Chrome Gauges on XJ- Where to get?

Never seen anything like this- it looks totally custom.

Never liked the black ringed gauges on the xj6, maybe some of the members know where to upgrade to gauges like these;

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OQID...e=results_main

at around 1:45 the gauges are shown.

is the wood is glossier than normal- is that an upgrade too?

Where would I get gauges like this?

Find an early Ser I and steal the gauges from it....or at least rob the gauge bezels :-)

The change from chrome to black bezels was late-1970/early-1971 as I recall but an expert may well come along and correct me on that.

The owner of this car obviously agrees with you and made the change. Since it's an XJ12 it would've actually been built in 1972-73, after the change to black bezels

Yes, the wood is glossier than usual. Series I cars had a satin finish on the wood.

Cheers

I like the idea of the separate gauges without that black plate joining the indicators, tach and speedo.

Give the black a good rub and it won't stay black for too long, it is just a paint over the bezel and can be polished off.

I have always liked the jags, especially the early XJ6's and the XJC's.

Still looking, I only want 1 project car at a time, trying to decide against a 70's 911 targa or a 70's XJC and do a LS1 conversion on it. I did the whole vintage car thing a couple times- was always more money than anticipated- so now I am looking at the best I can buy, and then kick on another 15-25k for repairs/conversions/unexpected stuff.

Kind of on the fence with the cost vs fun vs cool vs resale value later decision.
As well I have to secure a car from the southwest and then line up competent shop to do the full resto.

Or I can walk into the nearest Porsche dealer and buy a new boxster.

So really kicking tires and seeing if I want the hassle and enjoyment old cars bring.
