Default Chrysler starters and XJ-S?

I was told that Chrysler starters interchange with Jaguar XJ-S cars with 12 cylinder motors. Can you verify that for me, as I would like to purchase from Jeg's Automtive their Part Number: 746-PCE393.1013 for Chrysler.

I've not heard that; let's hear what others have to say.

Looking at the pic on the Jegs website I can't see how it would fit....but sometimes generic pictures are used rather than picture of the actual part

You might be a trailblazer.

I'm not sure I follow. The bolt pattern looks totally different for each. On the V12 they are 180 from each other and on a 440 they are maybe 80? Go to any auto store and ask to see a starter for a 318 or 440 chrysler to take measurements. I can provide measurements for the V12 starter if you don't already have one out.

It's not unusual to use a Chrysler starter relay on older Jags. I wonder if that's what you heard/read?

Doug:

Yes. that was my thought. Decades ago I used the Chrysler solid state relay on my IHC Scout II. It's Delco starter suffered the hot crank issue of other GM cars. Fixed.

Hi y'all, I have to apologize for the delay to the forum with my solution to the starter recommendations, but I did eventually buy a hi-torque starter from British Starters. It works well, but was no fun having to take the exhaust down to get it in! I expected a bit more "spin" out of it, but it worked well and that's all that mattered. By the way the motor was made in Japan, and then retrofitted by British Starters, first class job!

Correct...it is the starter relay not the starter motor that is interchangeable.
Doug, I am getting tired of your being right all the time. Couldn't you just give the rest of us a break by unintentionaly posting a wrong answer sometime?

Yours has the big solenoid top side. I don't recall any ford unit that is built that way..

But, tis been a time since I messed with a ford starter, other than the very early ones..... 40's as the latest.

Check rock auo cataloque for about 95 for a V8 and see what it look like Quarantine recreation...o
