Club Road Trip to A Castle
I've spent the last couple days shining up Nix inside and out, checking all the fluids in her 'pickup truck engine,' in preparation for a club road trip tomorrow. Meeting place is about 135 miles away so we've got a room in Sac for tonight.
There won't be very much panache though as the drive leader is a bit stodgy.
No matter, it's nice weather and will be a pleasant lunch, and interesting tour to Preston Castle in Ione, Ca. It was a boys reform school converted into a tourist trap.
Until later then...........

The Jag looks fabulous !

Always a risk on club tours. Most Jag owners driver their cars as though they were made out of glass.

I was thinking more of my local club, but it is true that I am an effective handbrake on the JF group runs. Its a pity you cant do the full route on Wednesday , keeping up with George on the Tolmie-Whifield Rd is quite a challenge :-)

The Tour
As I mentioned, we got a room in Sacramento Friday night to be a hundred miles closer to the meeting place, which was 20 miles away from where we stayed.
It was a Very interesting motel!
They didn't bother to mention to husband while he was making the reservation that they were under some construction and there were "inconveniences."
The lobby was non functional, so they grabbed one of the rooms on the ground floor and put a temporary sign, "OFFICE" on the door. They grabbed another such room for the Breakfast Room. However, living out in the Wilds of Tehama County, we survived.
The place was full Friday night, quite a lot of truckers seem to like it here.
However, Nix was the ONLY Jaguar (like that never happens).
If you notice, the first thing she did was snag a Prius!
Such a good girl!
On to the meeting place; the Meadowlands Inn, formerly known for decades as the Slough house inn.
Nix does Not like to be late! So we arrived before any Saturday morning customers.
As we were waiting for our fellow travelers we sat at the bar and husband got a head start on the day. I was looking at a Very Olde window, probably original with the building.
Here is why I thought it was so neat!
I've never seen window glass like this.
As members arrived at 10:30 (it was already in the low 90sF) they were scattered all over the parking lot, and Many locals had arrived for breakfast. So, I only got pictures of our cars together over at the Castle, and even then the XK8 convertible is missing from the line-up.
We had 6 Jaguars and 2 Brand X, for an attendance of 16 members! This is a *Very* good turnout for our club!
I posted the report on the tour of the Caste over in Off Topic, because it's quite long, a bit uncomfortable and not really Jaguar related.

Nix performed Flawlessly! Her AC kept up with souring heat Just Fine!

Thank you, everybody,
Yes, Nix does indeed hold her own.
Just last night though, her 30+ year old alternator got the rattles (sounds like bolts in a can) so I'll be changing bearings, and maybe diodes while I'm at it.
She did get me home with full lights and AC but I'm glad I didn't have another 10 miles to go!

The gals got it right, Elinor and NIX.
Although the pictures of the Slough House windows were not up to Elinor' s usual photographic skills, I understand. Toughest things to depict are glass and white paint.
Learned that in my former profession.
Those were really old panes. Wavy was just the way t was in early glass.
Side bar.
Way back when, the Delco alternator in out 65 Corvair Monza got noisy, I removed it and took it apart, expecting a simple fix. Not to be. The bearing had disintegrated
and tore up the surface of the armature really bad. Amazing that it continued to generate volts...
My son tells me that the alternator in his SO's Ford just bit the dust. Decided, too hot to mess with it. Used his sources and got another. Odd, serpentine belt driven, but, no idler to relax to replace the belt. Special tool needed. NAAAAh, stretch it....
It works !!!
But, now tossing odd codes.... Looks like at 150K, it is done for....
