Default Coolant drain location on a series 3

Going to change my thermostat, does anyone know where the coolant drain is?

On the cars that *have* a coolant drain it'll actually be in the transmission oil cooler....that cylindrical heat exchanger that attaches to the lower radiator hose.

Later cars usually don't have the drain so you'll have to slightly loosen the lower hose and let the coolant trickle out

Cheers

why do you want to drain the coolant?

once you disconnect the upper radiator hose, some coolant will drain anyway.

but if you mean draining the entire system for whatever the reason, there is a block Drain on the driver's side of the engine that looks like a tiny faucet and it is there to drain the block.

My Series III does not have a drain. You have to undo the lower radiator hose.

if the engine is the 4.2 liter, have you checked behind the oil dipstick tube and under the rear exhaust manifold?

maybe the little faucet was replaced with a bolt instead?

funny, my 1984 4.2 engine has one as well as my 1965 S type 3.8 engine, same part although they are slightly different looking in each engine.
