Default Crack in rear axle cover?

See attached picture. Does this look like a crack, or maybe just some separation (tighten the hose clamp)? From my understanding this is basically just a cover, so not that big of a deal other than maybe extra moisture getting in/grease getting out. Anything I should be concerned about?

U-joint covers. They're two pieces riveted together, thus the seam

Some guys take 'em off and toss 'em in the bin. Their effectiveness is a bit iffy
