Default Crowding!

Went to the "local" WalMart yesterday, and as is my habit I parked Nix waaaaay out in the back 40 well away from Everything else.

When I came out, this is what I found:

Prospective makes it look like there was more room between cars than there actually was, which is why I parked out there.

Why do people do this?? That whole section was EMPTY!

But to make up for this, another place I stopped, a fella came out and almost Drooled over Nix. She's the only example of Classic Jaguar I've seen in the wild for the last year or so. She's really enjoying her Uniqueness.

Gas is now well over $4/gallon locally, so whenever I get her anywhere near a pump I top her up to psychologically ease the pain. But as mentioned in a thread over in Off Topic, for us this is Entertainment. Driving is just about my only expensive habit.

Elinor,
I think your parking lot experience is universal, certainly up here. If only my weather looked like yours.

Dave

And this is after 3 weeks of rain/snow mix and 30 to 45* temps.

Call $4 a gallon expensive ! Here in England we're paying £1.60 a litre. As there are 3.785 litres per US gallon, this gives a price of £6 or $7.99, so nearly double what you're paying. Most of our fuel price is tax, (55%)

In Ghana we are around $6 almost $7 per gallon.
Everything/commodity prices are moving higher as swiftly as concord airplane then.
We are suffering in Africa ooo.

here it's 2.3 euro per liter, which is 9.29 dollar per gallon.

And to be honest, I am perfectly fine with it. Maybe it will stop the worlds crazy hunger for energy a bit. And delay the inevitable destruction of the world with a few days :-)

Anyways, good to see Nix on the road. She does look good, and if I were to park there, I would also come closer to admire the beauty!

And you would be most welcome to do that, Wilfred, because I know you would treat her with respect and not bash her doors.

Sheep....people are sheep; they don’t think for themselves they just do what others have done.

It’s happened to me in various car parks, even to the extent that one family decided to pull up next to me, even though there were dozens of empty spaces nearby, then proceeded to knock the side of my precious XJ6 with their doors when they opened them!! I had a polite word with them resulting in no concern and no understanding of what my problem might be.

I once parked my daily drive VW in a huge open car park with about 1000 spaces used by a cluster of large office buildings. It was very early in the morning and I was the only car there. Despite there being another 999 empty spaces, the very next car to arrive decided to use the space right next to mine and had to be careful opening the driver’s door, getting bags out of the back seat, etc, so that they didn’t hit mine!

The same thing happens in pubs, bars, cafes, restaurants, etc, despite empty tables all around people come in and choose to sit at the table right next to someone already there. I find it bizarre.

It's a worldwide problem. Maybe they think that if they park next to our cars some of the sophistication might run off? I just wish they'd be more careful opening their doors. In most markets, Jaguar didn't fit the bump strip on the sides that you have in the US. One of the (lesser) jobs my DD6 has been in the body shop for is all the little dings in the doors.

with all the idiot research that the us government does, we should petition the house/senate to conduct a study regarding this serious matter. i would love to interview the culprits involved. i probably would not be as civil as xjrayuk but then again i was born in detroit:}

Years ago I had a rusty 71 Mach1 Mustang. I was parked at KMart and a lady pulls up next to me in a 78 Mercury Marquis, and slams her door into my passenger door. It just so happens my Mach1 had electric windows, I rolled the passenger window down, and said Hey Lady take it easy on the door. Her exact reply was, it's just and old piece of ****! anyway. I said yeah but it my piece of **** not yours! She mumbled an Inaudible reply, and went into Kmart. The more I sat there the madder I got. So I wiggled myself up, and over the console, pulled the latch to open the door, took both feet, and slammed my door into the door of her car I hit dead center of her door, and caved it in 3 or 4 inches. I pulled my door shut, and waited for the ex to show up, and left.

I almost wish I could have seen the women's face. Had she said Oh sorry, or anything, I wouldn't have done it, but the insolence, just pissed me off!

When this situation occurs, I ,still today, after carefully monitoring the area, move back their passenger side rearview mirror requiring them to manually move it back in place. They normally don't notice it until they get into the car, fasten their seatbelt, start the it up and look to back out. Backup cameras have helped, not noticing it until moving forward. Not everyone deserves this, but you know which ones
