Today I had to be in town early to do business several places, and since I wasn't actually working I took Nix. First place I went, I parked her waaaaaay in the outback, far away from those who might have no manners.
As we were leaving, a mixed group of 20 somethings happened by, staring all the while we went past (not a one of them probably knew what she is), and one of them with Orange mirrored shades, blew Nix a kiss!
Next place we stopped, but I didn't get a picture, I parked out far away again, and a Giant Mercedes SUV had snuggled up in the next spot like there wasn't another slot in the entire 4 acres!
After this one we left town.
When I parked here, there was No One in that entire lot!
5 minutes later I find this!
They just Have to park close to Class!
The dreaded parking, that's the biggest reason I am not interested in an $8,000 to $10,000 paint job. If you were driving a '98 Honda with a cracked windshield and dent in one front fender, you couldn't pay someone to park next to you.
It happens everywhere. You park in the furthest corner and someone's afraid your car is lonely so put theirs next to it. In Europe, you could usually see the tail or nose of an XJ poking out from a line of cars - it makes them easy to find. A few times in the United States I thought mine had been stolen, but it was just hidden by the Dodge Ram or similar sitting next to it.
Sometime in 2019, before the dreaded C-19 lockdowns the wife and I took the XJR to a club in the Southern Highlands about an hour south of Sydney. The main carpark was quite busy, but I found there was a second, completely empty, carpark a little ways away, so I parked there. Benefit was I could also see the car from the restaurant. Looked up during lunch, and there is another car, horrible Korean thing if I remember correctly, parked right next to my girl...... The only 2 cars in the whole parking area.

Lyndon, I have been given to understand by people in a position to know, that California is Very Much like NSW! In fact, I toyed with the idea once of visiting Oz just to see for myself, but life is now SO complex, and travel is SO difficult, it probably won't happen any time soon if ever.

From the couple of times I visited the States, and California, - which were both back in the Eighties - I can say that both places do have a similarity to them. Back then (the 80's) at least we had very different automobiles, and in fact the autos of the US, Continental Europe, the UK and Australia were all very different kettles of fish. Whenever I look at overseas news reports now I can't get over the genericness of cars everywhere. Toyotas, Mazdas, Hyundais, BMW and Mercedes are all so similar and boring now, the world over......
And I also agree that I can't see us traveling anywhere overseas in the near future. Heavens knows that here in Australia there are even some states that we won't be allowed into until probably the middle of 22!
that happens even more flagrantly at the Rest Stops when I travel interstate and stop for bathroom breaks.
When I come back from the bathroom, there are people taking selfies next to the Jags, the S type being the most popular for selfies.
I have even stood next to people looking at my car and made comments like "what a beautiful car" and the couple next to me saying "they are very expensive cars", and "it must be from the 1950's" and "they sure don't make them like they used to". I shock them when I ask them "you want to see the engine?". The wife says "ohh it is your car?". I say yes and open the door to pull the bonnet open. You should see their reactions.

Part of that. Jose, is that now all the engines are as Boring in appearance as the car!
They ALL look the same no matter how 'Hot' or powerful they are; covered with an acre of Plastic to that only the dip stick is accessible, and even that isn't a given. You have to Read the Badge to know if it's a Toyota of a Ford.
In fact, I'm thinking that Very Few people under about 40 years old even know what a Real engine looks like (20 somethings don't even recognize a lowly Chevy 350!), Hence their Fascination when you pop the hood.

It has been a few years. I volunteered to fix an engine issue in my daughter's2001 VW Passat. Engine bay covered with a plastic shield. Two or three pieces. A quarter released the fasteners. Lo and behold ! A very nice DOH V6!!! Why was it hidden???
I was tempted to toss them, but not my car, so I replaced them
