Bosch # 0280170028

Summit said that Bosch's own shelves were bare. I have found reconditioned injectors, but I would rather buy new while/if I can. Anyone know who might have one in stock? Thanks, -Paul

Bosch sez none. Discontinued 2007, no old stock, obsolete. I hope that doesn't make the whole car obsolete! Those referbs are looking better and better. -Paul

 

you can clean them out as long as they show a resistance value, know anyone(dentist), that has an ultra sonic machine.

soak them and try 12 volts to the coil,on-off as fast as possible,apply some pump pressure using kero,diesel something that wont burn easily,(no gas,petrol) with sparks from connections. you can guess why.

 

Was never impressed by ultrasonic cleaners. Used them professionally as a jeweler, they couldn't hold candle to a shot of Scrubbing Bubbles and a toothbrush! Anyone know if they actually do anything for injectors, or is it just advertising hype?

Tried that with carb cleaner, couldn't get a drop or a bubble through at 90 psi. Was going to crank it up to insane, but thought better of it when I found out how hard it might be to replace. Details here: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...1/#post1099317

The Bosch FI system was used on many cars with slight variations. I Googled "Bosch Cold Start Injector" and got lots of hits. Here's one:

I'm fairly sure that many cars used the same *style* of cold start injector....the one above looks like the type seen in the older Jags, just going from memory.

If you could find one from a car with a 3 or 4 litre engine that looks like the same style, it would probably work just fine. One from a little car with a 1.5 or 2.0 litre engine might not give a big enough squirt due to being calibrated for a smaller engine.

Anyhow, it might be worth a little research?

Thanks for the tip! He has great prices on other stuff I need too. The price is right for a cold start injector, but unfortunately they have not been flow tested. If I can't find a new one soon, I may take a chance. -Paul

 

I checked the images that came up on a google of “cold start injector” and saw an identical looking part: Land Rover EAC1383L. It even shows up on a cross reference to the Bosch part. Unfortunately, it appears to be even harder to find. If I had the time I would probably buy this:

I've been seeing many with the same flange, that is encouraging.

I think that one would work fine, if I could find a barb fitting for it, or a 5/16 hose with the right fitting on one end.

I think so too. My Jag seems happy with most any size blast of starting fluid I give her, I don't think an exact match would be necessary. -Paul

Dave at everydayxj.com really came through for me. His injectors weren't flow tested and I didn't want to be put further behind on this project while a clogged injector was cleaned or exchanged, so I ordered 2. He gave me a package price on 2, figured out a way to get them to me next business day for $5, and threw in an extra one with a defect that probably wont interfere with its function! And if I pay to get a couple of them referbed I will still be out less that the cost of 1 referbed injector on Ebay, and probably end up with 1 good injector in the jag and at least 1 spare. I wouldn't have dared to ask for a deal this good. I know where I will be looking first when I need more jag parts! -Paul

 

Hi all,

I'm in the process of getting a 1983 XJ6 running so I can flip it, and have a bad cold start injector. It seems hopelessly clogged. The electrical parts are good in the injector, I hear it click, but I can't even blow though it. I've had the injector soaking in Gum Out for several days now. Will check it again but don't have much hope.

Has anyone found a suitable substitute for the injector? Preferably not over $100?

Soaking in Seafoam works better than Gumout.

 

I'm getting ready to use brake cleaner. I'll try Seaform as well before then.

Has anyone had any luck using compressed air and blowing the injector from the reverse (output) direction with it energized?

 

order the aftermarket part, it is probably better than the Bosch part.

 

Y'all keep calling it a Cold Start Injector when the correct designation is CSV (cold start valve).

Most 'L' Jetronic fuel injection systems used a Cold Start Valve but some of the German cars with 'K'Jetronic used one with a BANJO fitting instead of the hose connection for fuel inlet.

Datsun 280 Z used one but the nozzle points to the side (I think).

The confusion comes right from Jaguar itself, as the S57 wiring guide, parts catalog, and ROM all refer to it as "cold start injector".

Most others do use the 'valve' terminology, in my experience
