Alright I decided to give my 85 xj6 a tune up, I am shocked it ran as well as it did with the plugs cap and rotor as bad as they were.
Changed the plugs first, helped a little with the semi rough idle, but then I changed the cap and rotor and I got the order mixed up somehow. got it started once after messing with the order a few times. now Im frustrated. tried to find images on the internet and found two. both conflict with each other than number 1 is at the rear of the motor.
So I have two questions;
1 where is number one on the cap at officially?
2 does the distributor turn clockwise or counterclockwise?
the manual says 153624 and so does everything else but direction and where number one is at, is not explained.
thank you for your help, I really appreciate it.

well I figured it out so I figured I'd post it in case anyone else had this issue later on. number 1 Rear of motor is located to the left of the screw hold down at the closest to the motor and the rotation is counter clockwise.
Good luck to anyone who encounters this problem.

Love my Vanden Plas
