Default Does an extra 1.25" matter?

I think so. Now that I have it running well, back onto a few other projects. Just put in the 7" lights, here is the before and afters. I also have 6 new chrome bezels for the instruments but have to wait until all my LEDs get here so I only have to take the gauges out once.

Looking good, did the S3 not come with 7" lights in the US?. There is red one near me has them.

All US spec Series 3s came with 5 3/4s in all four. Think it was a DOT mandate at the time regarding quad headlights.

I think there is more to it. IDIOT doesn't design things. It merely approves or rejects submissions. some with good reason, others not so much.

USA designers got the "bright" idea that four is better than two. Submission made by one of the big names. DOT approved. Others including Jaguar and big truck folks had to stay in the game. Some more stylish than others. Jaguar was free to submit it's & & 5/14 combo, but apparently chose otherwise. Money???

Took up MS on free MS 10 upgrade. So far so good. Old patterns out, new ones to learn.

Old dogs can!

Had never noticed the smaller lamps on the US spec before. Whatever the regulatory reasons for it, there's no denying that 7" looks a hell of a lot better by properly filling the headlight cavities that were factory designed to accommodate them. The smaller lamps have a similar effect on the car as undersized wheels would have, i.e. somehow not quite right!

How could I not have noticed this??!

just went to the garage to measure and sure enough my Cali-spec S3 has the small ones.

Does anybody know if Canadian cars did too? I just realised the parts car I just bought is also a California car so that won't help, but I also drove a three-hour round trip today to the self-service junkyard to get some bits from an '86 they've just got in - and if I'd known I could've grabbed the lights for mine
