Badges are not bad to remove, but the chrome rectangle outside the rego plate and the wing things either side of the boot lock are not so easy. As for mounting the bumper on your own.....duct tape and good luck. Tail pipes ,easy.
Problem is now the All British Day is this month,now I have started,where do I stop.

I've been glad from the first time I saw it that the PO had all those badges and chrome removed at the time of conversion. I have only the boot latch to be concerned with and it's not that hard. Of course my car doesn't get DIRTY either; merely a bit dusty.

I thought I might give it a break today and give the bike a once over,got a bit done. Hopefully finish it tomorrow so I can take it to work Thursday.
Cleaning the bike is about 6-8 hours usually. Did 3 hours on it today. Would you believe it if I said I clean the engine with a tooth brush?
I have to take off the saddle bags,seat,tank and side covers to clean it. I hate dirt on the frame.

 

Yes, Clarke, I would believe you clean a bike with a tooth brush.

You're the kind of person who would do well in Concourse. They clean things in that manner, of course they don't drive the car/bike either once it's clean. In that regard you are completely different from any other neat-nick I know.

Been meaning to ask you how those Chrome badges were attached and how you actually removed them? The have a little bolt through the center or similar?

I looked on mine and it looks like you would have to get inside the panel to remove them. Yours might be different of course but yeah,they really did come up nice mate.

Mine have pins on the back that just push into plastic plugs in the panels.
I have a set of tools for removing panel trims,mouldings and badges. From the days when my older brother owned a panel shop in the 90's. But a small flat blade screwdriver will work with a bit of care not to damage the paint.
I use a plastic bog (bondo) spatula to protect the paint then gently lever the the badge up enough to slip the spatula under and use it to wriggle the badge off. Lifting both ends evenly,if you take one end out all the way with out bringing the other end with it you will damage the plastic plugs.
Then I use Gumption(get it from coles) to clean them with a toothbrush. Then press back on gently.

But on some later cars they are simply stuck on with double sided foam,peel the badge off then clean off the old foam tape with alcohol(not your best scotch,IPA) and buy a roll of double sided trim tape from an auto parts shop. Like the stuff we used to stop your rear rego plate marking the paint.

A guy pulled up behind me and asked what I was doing,I guess it looked a bit sus. Sitting on the road behind my car at 8.45pm prying off badges with a torch in my mouth. Once I used my key to open the car he was ok.

I use the stuff for cleaning all sorts of metal parts,including carby internals. Mild,not too abrasive paste. Works great on the alloy accessories on the Jeep with really fine steel wool.

Maybe organise a meet on the Sunshine Coast, A few members up that way too. Maybe Start a thread(in the Qld forum) for some time in October/November . Could meet somewhere like Ettamogah pub and drive some of those mountains up your way.
