Default English fuse ratings

Ran across this in the FAQs.. seems critically important!!

As I read this, for example, if my fuse ratings on the fuse doors indicate a 20, does that really mean I use a Buss AGC 10??

Or were the fuse panel door listings "adjusted" for the North American market??

Thanks for clarity....

Randy

Hi, since no one else has replied yet, I'll give it a go. You are correct as far as I know ( the USA BUSS fuse should be aprox half ( use the chart ) the British / Lucas value ). I don't think the decals were changed for the US market. Probably a major factor in the cars having a reputation for electrical problems once people started working on them instead of going to the dealer ( while new ). The UN-informed owner / mechanic would drop in the 2x rated US fuse to "fix" a problem but if the component on the other end really had a problem and was pulling too much current, now you have a fried wiring harness, possible fire, etc to go with the original problem. When I had my first XJ6 Series 3 in the mid-late 90's NO one told me about it ! I got lucky and never had any problems / had to replace any fuses but the potential for disaster was there.

Cheers,
Brian

Yikes! I am glad I stumbled upon this. Further Google supplies a more detailed explanation...

The UK auto fuses give the 'blow' amps, with the max continuous current much less. If the US standard is the continuous current rating, then I would think our 50 amp would match to your AGC30.
