Hi John Doe,

Sorry to read about your plight.

Me thinks you have an XJ40 XJ6, not a Series 3 so you should post in that part of the forum for help.

Good luck,

Cheers,

Nigel

How long did you drive the car before stopping at the inspection station? In my one time failing emissions testing, my mechanic told me to drive it for at least 1 hour before testing, and then it passed fine.

Agree. I can not quite read the numbers in the picture of the chart.
But, it seems to do with the effectiveness of the catalyctic converter/s!

Way back when, my Jeep just barely failed with a "fail" in just one of them. At the right margin.

Cat replaced. Passed. I should've known, it was "noisy"!!!

And, yes, making sure the cat/s are hot is essential. I do a freeway run in "OD out" mode or D2 to make sure.

Durn, I gotta do it again...

PS. Do some research. A check with BAR? My neighbor bought a nice
Dodge Ram pickup "cheap". SMOG flunked. Owner not wanting to mess with it further. Too many Daddy $'s.

A "friendly" SMOG tech told him that it was possible to get an overall
pass on a vintage car with a one box "fail". The truck is late 90's? Result, I don't know.
