My small NJ town has had monthly cruise nights, spring through fall, for decades and I've rarely missed a month in 20 years. But due to the virus, last week was the first of the season with only one more scheduled for next month.
At first I drove my '64 356 since it hasn't been out for a couple months, but since I live only about a quarter mile from the show, I just couldn't resist walking home and getting the Jag. Glad I did since everyone's so used to me bringing either the Porsche or my MG, very few have had the chance to see the XJ6. It was quite well received. Only about 60 cars showed up where normally there'd be over a hundred, but still a nice night to get out and enjoy the cars.
Thanks, Peter. It's actually Cobalt Blue although I've seen Solent cars in photos and often confuse the two colors, although in person the difference is noticeable.
Wondering if anyone can help I’ve sprayed cars before but only bodywork, but I’m about to respray my Cam covers I’ll be using primer and either black gloss or black satin out of a rattle can aerosol once degreased and sanded down, but will I have to use heat resistant primer and paint or will normal primer and paint be sufficient as I’m getting mixed opinion some saying it has to be heat resistant paints and other saying normal paints will do then job
I've never used heat resistant paint for valve covers on any car and have never had a problem. I know show cars that even have the heads and block painted with non-heat resistant paint, using the same paint used to paint the car body. But if you're concerned it might not last, use high-heat paint. I really think the prep work done to get it ready to paint is more important than the paint used.
Yes true I’ve just watched a Video on YouTube by “Living with a classic” we’re he’s done a video on how Paint the cam covers but he didn’t mention about what type of paint he used in the video clip, until I read the comments and someone asked him the same question and he also used normal rattle can paint so looks like I’ll be buying normal paint and thanks for the Reply 👍🏻
I am using Rust-Oleum engine paint (spray) that I found at Home Depot. Good to 500 degrees and "gas and oil resistant". It definitely does not wash off as easy with gas, brake cleaner, etc as other paints I've used. Black is the only color I've found.
Sorry, I wasn't clear. What I meant by " specifically engine enamel" referred to the title on the can. I do use it for everything I want to look black, including plastic.
Nice. I got in one local show with the Corvette before they shut everything down and banned public gatherings. Been suffering car show withdrawal all summer. At this point, it looks like we won't have any here in Fort Worth till next Spring.
1. I broke quarantine yesterday!! i drove the jaguar to the das station and took ona bout 15 gallons of 87 octane. Fifty bucks. The LT1 purred. I was prepared. mask, charged cell phone, road service card and debit card available... I took the scenic route home.. Als, no freeway to let the cat stretch out...
2. Late forties, Engine paint only. Bruh applied. Either light or dark grey!!! My T was in light grey. No oil leaks in the four banger. Circa 52, a rattle can came available. I chose a red. We painted a 32 B four banger and lumped a 30 A roadster with it. No paint burn as we feared... Replaced the extremely tired a Four. The car was raggedy, but the engine looked great and it ran like stink. including a couple of dirt track races..
Alas, the B ate the A transmission!!! Tore it down for the install of a V8. Ran out of time. Called to army duty...
Carl, you are living history of the early days of Hot Rodding. My brother mad a model A; I remember pushing that darned car hundreds of times to get it started. The exhaust manifold heater had a crack and the interior would fill up with smoke. Young and stupid kids.
Yes, take your mask and use the pump farthest out where people won't get near you. If they do come up just back away. We have been driving the wheels off our old cars out in the country during the pandemic. Also been doing a ton of preventative maintenance on all the cars. Changing coolant, differential fluid, brake pads, greasing all of those zerk fittings, etc.
