Default Flexplate series 1 & 2

Helping out a friend with a series 1 Daimler. Besides the engine being a little noisy and metal particles showing up in the oil, he has noises from the Transmission area that sound like flexplate problems.
Now I have located 2 engine+transmission units that are available for a similar price.
First unit is ex Series 1 with a tired block, but newish head from a series 3. Has Model 12 transmission,
Second is excellent series 2 engine (compresssions 15 -160) with BW65..
If we chose the series 2 unit and want to fit the model 12, are the flexplates interchangeable? OR
How easy is it to fit the whole series 2 setup into the Daimler regarding vacuum and kickdown connections??

thanks John

S1's didn't have the BW65, so the only issue I can think of is, how to operate the the shift pull-wire.
There may be no throttle linkage provision for this.
I think the 65's were weak and quickly improved to the 66.
Hard rebuild parts for the 65 are very hard to fine.
A S3 head will not be drilled for cam end caps at the back. The S1 cars use these cap bolts to secure the throttle linkage. If you use the S3 head be sure to drill the cam ends for this, as there's no room to drill once installed.
That's all I can think of so far.
Rob

Thanks Rob, If we chose the series 2 engine, we would like to dump the 65 and use the existing model 12. Really just asking if the flexplates are interchangeable as these are hard to come by in good condition.
The series 1 engine with the later head has already been setup for the early throttle linkage so no problems there.

Well we found out the reason for the noisy transmission - it was indeed the flex plate - see the photos

My friend chose the series 2 engine (which turned out to be a 1983 series 3) so we shall now have to drill the end caps for the throttle linkage
The face of the original series 1 measures 35mm from the block, the series 3 plate measures 37mm, so I think bolting the original model 12 to the late block should work.

Not clear in the photos. What did you find wrong with the flexplate?

Thanks, Bill

Look carefully - the mounting holes at 12o'clock and 3 o'clock are torn out. The ones at 6 and 9 are OK

WOW! Wasn't looking in the right place the first time. Give me a refresh - what mounts in those four holes?

50% damaged, yet still had the car running.
Now that's great British engineering for you!
