The "old masters" knew that momentum was key. "straighten" the course.

Way back when, in my hoe town, a local shoe raced a little
****** coupe powered by a Jeep four. He won more than his share against far more powerful V8's of various specie. Put it on the pole and kept it there. Shortest way around the oval and no lost momentum by sliding.

Watched a good part of the Daytona 500. Top shoes in top cars. Photo finish. One guy took the pole, "the short way"around. Another chose a wider course, less loss of momentum by steering input. Aka
"straightening the course". That plus "side draft" off the leader and the outside guy "nosed" out the inside guy. Tactics and strategy at their finest.....

I will say the rear mount is rather clunky and awkward. I'm sure there must be better options out there.

Ah ok, I thought you had a 700r4 behind the jag 6 pot.
I do have a 700r4/4.2 in my '86. Quite a bit better than the standard BW slug. And my XJC is 350/700r4, waaay better to drive! More fun and more tickets. Hope to drive it again soon someday, too many projects!
