Default Fuel System upgrade

Hey guys, I have a xj6 with a leaky tank and a bad pump. I was going to use this as an opportunity to update the whole system in hopes to eventually do a engine swap down the road. I have lower fenders off and tanks drained. Any advice to get the whole rear fuel system out. I'm going to run a fuel cell with an in tank pump external filter. Thanks

Couple hours of drive way mechanics and I realize why people don't mess with those tanks haha. Looks likei'll have to get the rear exhaust out of the way to get to the last bolt.......

What series car is this? Is this a Fuel Injected car or carb? Is your heart set on some kind of fuel cell? I believe ther are better options than hacking up the trunk and the fuel fillers etc.

Yes the exhaust tail pipe on each side needs to be removed to reach one of the mounting bolts. Next you will no doubt find that the fuel filler neck is stuck to the tank. It took me a couple of days of wriggling and cursing to remove mine recently.

While the tank is out, it is worth replacing the drain tube that goes from the filler orifice to the ground to take rainwater away. You can only access it with the tank out.

Thanks for the information Andy. I currently need to remove the whole rear fuel system and mount my fuel cell before it goes to the mechanics. It seems like there are lines everywhere! haha Any suggestions on what stays? should only be one line that runs to the engine and one return line?

From the engine bay rearward things start out fairly simply. A feed line on the right and a return line on the left...both along the under body of the car, obviously.

The feed line ends up at the RH forward corner of the spare tire well.
The return line is routed above the rear subframe and then forms a big "Tee" to the left and right return valves

These may help:

Then you have the vapor pipes and the change-over plumbing
