Default Fuel tank draining

I have not seen any mention, so I suppose it's not possible, but am wondering if the fuel tank could be emptied by disconnecting filter and using suction pump.

The question is why you want to? Otherwise I would disconnect the pipe and let the pump do all the work, I don't think it is possible to suck the fuel out

Thanks, I was thinking about a fuel pump failure with the tank near full. Not a problem at present, just a what if.

no you can't the check valve prevents fuel from leaving with your method.

Remove the line, front or rear of filter, let the fuel pump do all the work.

I think I read a post by motorcaman about using wood skids to slide a full tank back to get access to the cover with a failed pump. Looks like that's the best choice. Like I mentioned, just a mental exercise.

I dread a fuel pump failure in my wife's 2006 XK8 (built in May 2005 so the car will turn nine years old next month). There are numerous tales of failed fuel pumps here on the forum after XK8s/XKRs have sat around untouched for extended periods of time. As a precaution, we have a "three day rule" in place on this car. That means it can sit for no longer than three days without being driven. I hope this rule will greatly extend the life of her XK8's fuel pump....

I used a pump for kerosene (battery powered) to pump my tank out cheap and fast.

That's interesting. How did you do it?

I used a pump like this one DuraHeat Battery-Powered Siphon Pump-DH-20 at The Home Depot . I removed the sub woofer and stuck it down in the tank opening (from a post on these forums) and pumped out about 7 gallons. Nice easy clean. I have large hands and couldn't do the tank remove to change pumps. So I had to find an alternative.

I believe you are writing about the coupe. Several members have changed the pump by using that technique. I was wondering what to do with a full tank in the convertible.
