Fuse 4 (dash lights, speedo etc) keeps burning out
As the subject indicates: fuse four has been burning out.
- Right front turn signal appears not to flash. Rear does flash appropriately
- When placing right turn indicator to the right turn position, the dash light illuminates once only, but I do hear the clicking.
- I need to find the wiring diagram, but if someone has experience in this or a methodology to work through it with a determined novice, I would appreciate it
Thanks

Yes - sorry. 1986 xj6. Series 3.
new discovery. Seems to be linked with reverse lights. When I go into reverse it seems to burn the fuse. I removed the bulbs and changed them. A small piece of paper / soft material was in there. I just had the car repainted and I’m thinking that they might have messed something up. Haven’t been able to test the reverse bulbs yet.

Cleaning out the bulb sock did not resolve my short circuit. So, I was thinkin of how to isolate the problem. I can see if removing the bulbs solve it? If so, at least I know its at the end. If not - I figure I need to trace the wires starting in the trunk?
One other issue I've had which is somewhat related. To get the license plate lights to go on, I often need to bump them and then they come on. I've looked at the fixtures and cleaned the socket with no change. Has anyone solved this problem ?

remove each tail light assembly and see if the plugs are correctly connected to the main harness.
Note that there are blue with red stripe cables that are not used in the USA, they are for rear foglights and in USA cars they are not connected to anything.
Front Side marker:
each marker has a ground wire connected to the marker fixture and a red wire connected to the bulb.
Check that the ground wire has not become disconnected from the marker fixture by looking behind the fender with a lamp.
