Default Fuse location question

I own a 84 xj6 vdp and im missing some fuses on the drivers side. Just wondering if someone could tell me what the fuses on that side are for from left to right thanks. I need to get a manual asap. Thanks Also there is a larger fuse on the center of the dash and I was wondering what that was for.

Scott, I would tell you if I had the prints for your year car, but my sources only go back as far as 1993. So, I don't think that would help you all that much. Wish you luck. May want to try going to a local auto parts store and seeing if they have anything like a Haynes or Chiltons manual on your car. That would atleast give you a starting point. They are not necessarily the best manuals, but something is better than nothing.

Default Thanks

Thanks for the reply, I plan on ordering a repair manual for the car but I was just hoping that someone with a series 3 could tell me what the fuses are for.

They're labeled inside the fusebox cover door, I don't remember them all. I think it's 50A for blower motors, 15A for climate control, two 5A for RF exterior lights...oh, the 15A for interior lighting too? That's the one you have to pull to kill the RF door puddle light when your antenna fuse blows. That's five, I think it's close to accurate, hope that helps.

My bad, the ones I listed were for RH side.

Listed below is direct from the driver's fusebox cover door of a U.S. spec 1986 XJ6.
All Vanden Plas models are identically equipped as XJ6. The fact that this chart is from a 1986 and not a 1984 is not significant: there were virtually no changes to the electrical system of the car and none that I see when looking at this list of circuits.

Fuses locations are numbered left to right, and normally there is a white cardboard label inside the fusebox which indicated the required amperage for each fuse. I can only assume that you are missing this too.

Lucas fuses (OEM in your car) are a bit different, in that they have both a "continuous" rating and a "blow" rating. Fuse #2 is rated at 15A, that is the current maximum for the circuit, and the fuse will show that it is meant to operate at 8A continuous. So both 8 and 15 will appear on the paper tag inside the fuse: you need a 15A if you are replacing it with some non-Lucas fuse.

#1) 20A Foglamps. Although not fitted as standard equipment to U.S. cars, your car is wired for front fog lamps.

#2) 15A Hazard warning
Seat belt Logic unit

#3) 15A Map and interior lamps
Clock, Aerial

#4) 15A Panel Instruments
Reverse lamps
Low coolant sensor
& warning light

#5) 35A Heated backlight

#6) 35A Wipers

#7) 2A Trip computer

#8) 15A Panel / cigar
& glovebox illumination

#9) 10A Rear fog guards Note: same explanantion as front fog lights for U.S. cars

#10) 15A D.I. flashers

#11) 35A Horn relay (windings)
Auto trans (kickdown sol) Note: this is V12 only
Aux. rad fan relay (wdg)
Screen washers
Stop lamps S.I.C.

#12) 2A Speed control

Send me a private message if you want to buy these covers or any other good used parts for your Jag.

I saw your posting on this issue - fuses Series 3 XJ6. You mentioned a fuse for antenna relay and a light. Could you amplify this? My antenna stopped working and I'd like to hope that it is something easier than taking the darn thing out. Many thanks

Fuse 3 15A in the main fuse panel, not much more can be said really, worth a check before messing with the aerial. If you can download the S57 wiring diagram you can get a clear picture of how its connected (great diagrams , broken down by function)
