Default Gauge Dis-Assembly

Hi all,

I am going to repaint and "decal" my 87 XJ6 gauges for use in my Mark V project. Has anyone ever dis-assembled any of these gauges? There doesn't look like anyway to take off the front "retainer/bezel rings" without damaging them. Any ideas?

From long ago memory I recall gently "uncrimping" the metal bezels to remove the lenses for cleaning...and then carefully crimping the bezels back on.

Cheers

Don't be too worried. I've taken a few of these Smith's gauges apart and it went smoothly. The tabs are pretty thin material so they bend easily. Just bend them enough to slide the trim ring off. You don't want to fatigue the material and have one break, but again, it's not too bad. Once you do one, the others should be alot less nerve racking. Do the gauge that is the cheapest to replace first. That way if something does go wrong, you won't feel too bad.

Post pics as you restore.

Good luck,

Eric
