Default Gauge pod disassembly help needed

Hey there fellow jag enthusiasts. I am taking apart the 86 s3's dash so I can re do the wood. But for the life of me I can't figure out how to disengage the clusters from the dash. I currently have the dash taken out of the car but the gauges are still connected to it because I can't seem to feed them through the wood to separate them. The Haynes manual I have doesn't seem to have the correct actions for a series 3 disassembly of this nature. I would really like to re veneer my dash so any help figuring this out would be excellent! Cheers!

Which gauges are you talking about ? The small oil pressure, fuel gauge, etc are normally clamped from the rear with a clamping bar on each gauge. Speedo and rev counter need to be turned anticlockwise (I think its anticlockwise !!), from the front side and can then be removed from the front. A pair of fairly sticky rubber gloves helps give a grip on the bezel. If you have the parts manual it should show it all laid out.

Doug may also come on and help soon, as it's a long time since I fiddled around on a Series 3.

Thanks Fraser, I've got them all out and disconnected from the wiring of the car but there are a few connections that I can't pull out from the back of the oil and voltmeter as well as the smaller ones from the right hand side. This is preventing me from getting them untangled from the wood of the dash so I can re veneer it. Ill take some pictures tomorrow when/if the sun comes out and hopefully that will better explain my problem.

Heres a link to a pic of the dash with the gauges still tangled up in it. I would hate to have to try to re veneer it with the gauges in there.
