GM starter on LT1 in 83 Wuzza a six
I made some progress. yesterday, I got the car's nose up on the big trolley and my best jack stands. Big cable off the starter. Little wire post gave me fits to find and fit a wrench!! Exhausted my get down get under, get back up several times capacity!! Partly used up shoulders in trying to get into a pair of coveralls over my warm shirts!! Done for the day.
Back again this morning. One short and trusty Ford emblazoned duster/shop coat. Messed with jack and stands. More secure and just a tad higher. Snipped the small wire in the engine bay. Got a better selection of tools for the two 9/16" bolts that secure the starter. Back under. Eureka, the 3/8' rachet with a flex head, an extension and a universal type socket. One bolt kinda loose, the other tight as h.... Got them out.
Further eureka. Starter came out and cleared the exhaust down pipe. Out and up. Ugh, old bones just don't bend and flex as they once did.
Oh, left flash light under there yesterday. Batteries "dead". Oh well, I have a supply.
Old starter on the bench, yahoo.
Off for hamburger and a beer.
Tomorrow or possibly Monday, down and back under. The replace phase.
Carefully compared old to new. Yup, they look alike!!
