Ok the XJ got bigger and bigger, but that applies to just about any car compared to the 60s. Just look at the old and new Fiat 500 and the Mini.

I drove the current XJ earlier this year as a courtesy car, and TBH didn't have any trouble with its size, although to be fair, I was reluctant to take it into tight multi-storey car parks. Actually the £500 excess on the insurance was a powerful disincentive !!

I've driven a number of new XJ's over the last 3 years, wonderful car but probably not something I'd buy.

What I think is really interesting is how a slight adjustment to proportions can make such a difference to the eye.

To me, the series 1 is stunning. Series 2 falls a bit flat for some reason. Then comes the series 3 which is another stunning beauty. Newer than series 3 the cars simply don't have the special something that really draws me in.

Really interesting thanks for sharing!

Yeah, and best of all is a nice Series 2 with a few Series 3 bits added. (giggling)

Series III can credit that Italiian Pininfarina styling input.

I cracked up at 'iconic round headlights' on the series 1 in the video above...didn't *all* cars have round headlights back then?! Out of all the glorious new styling cues on 1968's car of the year Jag's current pr wonks focus on 'round headlights'?

The new XK's are wonderful to drive and be in but they're not a 'Jaguar' in my book, they are global transportation products you could stick any logo on...

Have to agree with you on the iconic round headlight or was it iconic round wheels
