Default Headlight Electrical Help... And Other Gremlins.

My 1985 VDP just decided to act up on me.

- Low beam headlights and all other exterior lights working properly.
- When I activate the high beams the right passenger's (US) side low and high beam lights do not come on, but the driver's side low and high do.
- No Horn. I changed the fuse but have done no further testing of the circuit. Horn was previously working.
- When I activate the B pillar opera lights the door open warning buzzer sounds, even when the door is closed, and the car is running.
- No seat belt warning light or buzzer when the seatbelt is not connected.

Suggestions? The headlight fuses are all new. Earlier the directions were not working, but the hazards were. Then all of a sudden, the directionals started working.

You have a problem downstream of the headlight relay. The bulbs are burned out, bad connection at bulbs, bulbs not grounded. Or the fuse clips are corroded. Something of that nature.

This will take some mulling but I think the problem might be the tiny key switch on the underside of the ignition lock assembly. Unplug it and see if anything changes. Meanwhile I'll do some thinking

Power for the turn signal circuit comes from the hazard light switch.....which can develop oxidized internal contacts. Just operating the hazard switch can sometimes clear the contacts and normal operation resumes

Cheers

Check all the connectors in wiring for corrosion - that was my issue.]

Exercising the hazard switch seemed to bring the turn signals back to life.

The headlight issue I have determined are loose contacts in the fuse box. I pinched them tighter and shimmed them on the side to make better contact and all the headlights are now working. Proper fix it to replace the fuse box. I have a spare, but that may be not as tight as a new one.

Still no seat belt warning light or buzzer and the buzzer still sounds when the B pillar lights are turned on.

No horn still.
