Default headlights only work on high beam

I was working on the jag the other day, was replacing a headlight. turns out it didn't need it, the wiring was separated. fixed that and turned on the headlights, nothing. then I went to the high beams and all 4 lit up, came back a little bit later and did it again. this time they worked but had no dash lights. went to town for some jeep parts and tried again, this time dash lights but again, no headlights unless they are on high beam. what do you guys thing is the culprit this time? ive changed relays and checked fuses. didn't change a thing. thanks in advance

I think you might have a couple different problems. Not sure.

Corroded fuses and fuse clips, poor grounds, and nasty bullet connectors often play hell with the lights. As often as not a thorough cleaning of all the above brings everything back to life

This has a few details

Headlamp Circuit Checklist

The panels lights might be a different issue....possibly related to the headlight switch or the panel rheostat. I suggests getting the headlights working and go from there

Cheers

I strongly suggest tightening, cleaning and/or replacing all fuses in front (engine bay) fuse box. Cured all my headlight problems.

Yeah, I did the same thing. Before the jaguar, the solution was always burnt seal beam. Replace same fixed!!! So, I replaced the right outboard when it went dark. No luck. Messed with connections and there was light. Oh, well, the new sealbeam is brighter and I have a spare!!!

Then, odd results on low high selection. Random light ups!!! Cleaned some more stuff. It was opnly when I removed the fuse box from it's holder and scrubbed the underside with a brush and cleaner did symetry and precise obeyance to command result!!

Twas a mess under there!!

good to hear you fixed your problem.

ive found that some TLC is the most common cure for these types issues.
