Default Series 1 Headlight Functions

How are the low beam / high beam supposed to work. Shouldn't the outer lights be on for dim and the inners come on in addition for high beam (or visa versa)?

My outer lights are on for dim, but then get brighter when I put them on high beams, but it's just the outer one's getting brighter, and the inside ones don't come on. I could swear that they've worked correctly in the past. I just want to validate that the outers are on for dim and inners come on for highs. Is that correct?

Also, what are "dipped" headlights? They're mentioned in the manuals. Is that what we'd call fog lights?

"Dipped" = low beam
"Main beam" = high beam

The outboard lights have a Low Beam filament and a High Beam filament. The inboard lights have a High Beam filament only.

In Low Beam mode just the two Low Beam filaments come on.

In High Beam mode all four High Beam Filaments come on

Cheers

Ok, thanks Doug. I guess I have some circuit chasing to do to figure out why the highs aren’t working.

Several years ago I wired up a separate circuit with relays, inline fuses and a common ground for the headlights. So shouldn’t be too hard to figure out.

Had the same issue, discovered it was a grounding problem.
Maybe the fact that those 5" lights are moving every time the hood is opened/closed may have something to do with it.
I dunno.
