Hi to everyone,
I am rescuing a very tidy 1977 Sovereign that has been stored for 30 years and has NO RUST!! However all the rubber bits have perished!
I am just fitting a new headlining, easy enough task but cannot get my head around the rear header rail fixings, there didn't appear to be any when it came out, seems like holes in the body to take metal clips like side cant rails but they don't reach and wouldn't fit in metal panel, which has mysterious slots and two holes (5 across the panel) for some sort of clip?? Am I going to have to break out the 3D printer again?
Many thanks for the reply, something like this.......
Rear area above window, has holes that align with rail. Rail has holes, but normal metal side cant rail clips don't secure well in these, or reach fully the car holes.
the side to side finisher rail is what keeps the rear of the headliner pad secure.
in my 1984 it covers the end of the pad and meets with the glass rubber. It is a thin metal rail covered in headliner material with spring clips.
many thanks Jose, agreed the side rails (cant rails) hold each end in but the centre sags away from window rubber, I may have to put a bit of a bend in it. (Just confused by the holes in the panel that seem to be for spring clips, maybe jaguar decided it didn’t need them after using hundreds in the side rails!
many thanks again
Andrew
Andrew,
you're welcome. I am not familiar with the headliner mountings of a 1977, only with my own 1984. But in theory, it should be about the same. The mounting or fitting system has been very similar since the 1960's.
