Default High Beam problem

82 xj6 series 3. Low beams on the car work fine. When I switch over to the brights only the 2 lights on the driver side illuminate. The 2 lights on the passenger side wont illuminate. The only step I took so far was check the fuses and they are okay.

Clean the headlight fuse block. Take it out, clean it, add some dielectric grease and reinstall. Same thing happened to me awhile back. Cleaned it and no problems since

Cleaning fuses and connections at the fuse box is a good suggestion. I'll add checking the grounds for the RH side lamps.

But....

You never said anything about checking the bulbs themselves. The outboard light has two filaments, hi beam and low beam. In the inboard light is single filament....high beam only. It wouldn't be too much of a stretch to have a couple burned out filaments.

My money is on dirty fuses, though !

The RH headlight grounds can be found just next to the radiator.

The headlight relay is just forward of the master cylinder. However, since the high beams are inoperative on just *one* side I doubt the relay would be the culprit. The left-right wiring split is external to the relay/after the relay.

If *both* left and right high beams were inoperative then the relay would be likely
