High fuel tank pressure on Passenger side
I have a new problem that has just occured over the last 2 weeks. The fuel tank on the passenger side seems to build tremndous pressure to the extent you can hear it swell. When you lift the fill cap it blows vapors into your face. Also noticed that it seems to be transfering fuel to the left side tank as I drive.
I have not "dug into it" to find the problem. She is parked outside till I have a solution. Could it be a fuel transfer valve or solinoid?
Anyone else have this before?

Suspect right return solenoid failed in open position. If you run on right tank first, you should not see it overfilling. Then you run on left, and it seems to be going through alot of fuel...so you switch back to right and find "bonus gas".
A faulty changeover valve (in the trunk) can create the same scenario by drawing fuel from both tanks and returning it all to the right tank when you're running on that side. You just have to test flow to make sure, but the right return solenoid is the first place I'd be looking. Rear of the right rear wheelarch, behind the crap shield.

What a way to spend my Sunday afternoon.
Dropped the crap shield as suggested and found a severly rotted changeover valve. Also noted that the fuel lines were very dry rotted. I pulled out everything in the trunk because at this point I want to change every single hose and fitting. I ended up dropping the left side tank, because I saw fuel stains all over the tank cover and wanted to know if I needed a tank or if it was just a hose.
Do I need to purchase special hose or can I go to Napa and buy the fuel hose their?
Where can I find the changeover valve? I plan on replacing both sides because of the rust and failure.
Thanks for all the great advice so far.

Hey Cat,
I'm sure Ken can help you out with the return solenoids, don't trust used ones. Napa has 5/16" hose for the small fuel lines you are wanting to replace: just make sure you ask them for fuel injection hose, not their normal garden variety (5 PSI) fuel hose.
You're moving in the right direction, almost every time there is a fuel leak in the vicinity of one of those tanks it is caused by a leak in the tank, not a hose connection.
