Default How much can it handle?

Hey guys, I was wondering how much torque can the automatic transmission handle on a xj6 series 3? (3-speed Borg-Warner Model 12 automatic). Can't seem to find the information anywhere.
Thanks in advance.

Hi,
a Series 3 XJ-6 would have a Borg Warner 66, not a 12.

Just noting that starting from ‘77 through to ‘92 the automatic transmission used with the 12-cylinder engines was GM’s three-speed turbo-hydramatic 400 transmission…

An easy spotting feature is the Model 65/66 is an aluminum case and the Model 12 is a cast iron case. The Model 12 was mainly used on V12 cars up to 1977, but 4.2 XJ6's did use it from 1970-73

The Borg Warner Model 65 was used from 1973-81, then the model 66 after that. The factory considered the Model 66 marginal for the 4.2 in European spec (205hp)

as mentioned many posts back.

"or that the switchpack is worn and is not making contact when the switch is moved. this can be resolved by taking apart the switchpack, maybe inserting a small shim and then reassembling it. can take some playing around to get it right."
