Inspecting the tappet guides
I searched the forums, read the threads, but still want to ask. I hear a ticking in an exhaust valve. I just pulled the valve cover to inspect. Everyhting looks fine to me. I do not see any damage from the cam hitting a tappet guide. They all look like they are seated. Is there another sign I should be looking for up there?
At this point I am almost content that it is a sticky valve and maybe an oil treatment or two may clear it up. I figured I would ask you guys before I seal it back up. This car was sitting for many years before I revived it. Fresh oil and a bottle of rislone are in there right now. I do not want to install a stakedown kit at this time.
...and i don't typically like these smilies, but this one seems rather appropriate:

Or possibly a valve out of adjustment? Checking the clearance is easy. Adjusting the clearance....not so much.
The tappet guide thing was mainly on much later cars....Ser IIIs, mostly.
