Default interior lights staying on

Ok so Im fixing up little things now, the interior lights had no globes and the backing seemed very poor, crumbly on the rh one. Signs of short on the rh one with fuse blown. So ive put a new interior light rh side.

All working well...until I was sitting in front seat for half hour with door open...lights on...then I shut door and noticed some twenty minutes late the interior lights still on. Have pulled the globes, which were bloody hot.

The interior lights supposed to go out immediately the doors shut or stay on for a preriod? What I wonder could be keeping them on...

xj6 series 2 1975....and ive looked up the note for series3...which states that a blown fuse for the radio aerial means the interior lights stay on....but on my series 2 the interior lights and aerial are on the same 35 amp fuse, and its intact.

Begin with checking your door switches. One of them might be stuck/broken. Remove and disconnect them one at a time.

I don't have any Ser II diagrams but I suspect the interior lights follow the norm of having constant 12v "+" and are turned on by grounds at the door switch and the dashboard button

The antenna-interior light thing was an anomaly on the Series III cars. Not Series II.

Cheers

try opening each door and pushing the door switch plunger. Lights should go off.
If not, switch is bad.

But if no response from all 4 door switches, something else must be keeping lights on.

And you might like these. LED A bit white but lights up inside well. I did prefer the original filament type. Check your interior switch. It’s a grounding switch I think. Press it ON OFF and the doors shut (and door switch tested ok) ..see how it does.

Ok so I had been fiddling with wiring behind the globe as I bought some new lenses and these come with the plastic backing. For some reason I was cutting and putting in new wiring unions dont ask me why the new ones come with the correct diameter connections. Fixed my mess there was a short in there plenty of tape and now they work again. Cheers thank for your help everyone.
