As with oils and tires, opinions on spark plugs vary greatly.
FWIW, I never tried Iridiums on my V12 but I have on others cars, including my XJR. Never felt any difference in how the engine ran but the "long life" aspect seems true enough. Or, at least, I've never experienced or heard anything to the contrary.
Is there a particular problem you're having with spark plugs? Even the standard type should go at least 30k miles if all's well with the engine and ignition system. For most XJS drivers 30k miles would be several years of use.
Cheers

5000 miles seems like a very short time span for changing plugs on any engine. As Doug said, 30K is a bit more normal.
Having said that, I usually change them out every two years or so. On my cars, that's only a few hundred miles. I change them to prevent the steel plugs from seizing to the AL Heads. A good anti-seize is probably all the insurance I need but I tend to get obsessive over this kind of thing.
So for me, it's every 30k miles or every two years, whichever comes first.

I agree with John. I would never get close to 15,000 mile ayear on mine so every two years for me also. I always meticulouslycleaned/chased the threads and used anti seize when changing plugs.
On the original question, I never found a better plug to use on my seriesIII V-12 cars than the original one Jaguar specified.
