Default IRS spring and ride height question

Hi, my 81 XJ6 is a bit low at the rear. Doesn't look natural, and with some stuff in the trunk, clonk clonk from exhaust scraping. I got for next to nothing 4 other spring/shock assemblies, thinking I would replace.

But, a few questions.
-Can this be done without lowering IRS?
-Is there a smart way to evaluate if the "new" parts will solve the issue? I don't want to replace all 4 to find that it's still low, or even lower?

Thanks

yes

In essence it's just matter of undoing the bolts, top and bottom, and removing/replacing the spring shock assemblies.

I'll try to find a pictorial for you

Not that I can think of.

You could remove one and compare the overall free length to one of your replacements. If longer it might give a higher height? I'm not sure if that method proves what will happen when loaded with the weight of the car

Let's hear what others have to say

Cheers

Providing the fixings for the spring/shockers are intact and correct, and the axle cage is not deformed, the new units will fix the issue. The old springs get tired and that drops the ride height.
Exhaust knocks may still be present afterwards as the exhaust system may need to be realigned.

The rear springs can 'sack-out' after years on the car. Are the replacements you've found new, or just another old set ? If old, then you should really buy a new set of springs from a reputable Jaguar specialist.
