Default Limited slip oil in a standard Diff.

Guidense please. Can I use a good quality LSD oil in a Non-LSD Diff? I believe all Soverign models came witht a LSD, But I want to have a suitable oil for the shop tht will drain and replase whatever is in there. I know about the Diff tags, but until it's on the lift and I give them the oil to use, I won't know what I have in there now. And yes, I know to just take a peek at the diff tags., but I don't have a lift and I'm not planing to crawl under to check. Yeah, Lazy!

LSD gear lube has a friction additive that allows the clutches of the limited-slip to slide or move against each other while being under normal pressure. Without that modifier the clutches want to stick to each other and will cause a jerking or popping sound when going around a corner. The modifier does not affect the quality of the oil and its ability to lubricate the gears. LSD oil won't hurt a non-LSD diffy, just don't go the other way. This is the TMI version of Doug's answer.

It will make no difference. The LSD additive in a regular diff will perform no function and won't affect the operation.
