Lower Ball Joint

Lower Ball Joint
Hello all,
Yesterday I was working on the front suspension on my second Series 3 and noticed that the rubber seals on the lower ball joints have disintegrated. The ball joints have no play and I believe I can safely get away with just replacing the rubber seals. However, I would like to replace both the upper and lower ball joints, since this is the car that has no powertrain and is going to be getting the GM treatment.
Researching this, I see that there is a kit for the lower ball joint and there is also a non adjustable as well.
I would like to go for the non adjustable lower ball joint, but SNG Barratt and Welsh Enterprises do not show any. They only offer the repair kit.
Has anyone been able to purchase the non adjustable lower ball joint and if so, could you provide me with a part number and supplier?

The one-piece non-adjustable BJ has been the usual replacement for many years. I'm a bit shocked that it isn't listed.
LnrB gave good advice by suggesting Lemforder. That's the high grade stuff!
If you wanna do more shopping and don't see the one-piece type listed for your Series III just look for XJ40 lower ball joints
I'm sure if you *called* Barrat or Welsh or Coventry West, or any of the others, they can fix you up even if the on-line listings don't specifically show what you want.
Or...Rock Auto, Parts Geeks, FPC Euro, etc
Cheers
DD

The Lemforder joints are by far the best replacement for the old early 50s design. They are what the trade calls "fit and forget", but as with all ball joints regular inspection of the rubber boots is essential.
However to fit them you first take off the old ball and socket, but must not forget to tap-out the bearing ring that is seated in the hub carrier, (or upright). The pin of the old-type ball pokes through this to secure to the wishbone and bears on it. A little tap with a hammer and out it comes, and you then merely bolt on the Lemforder joint, which should come with the shorter securing screws. These have thread lock compound already applied and tab washers are not usually used, although there is nothing to stop them being used if you're a nervous type !
BTW the Lemforder joints for the top wishbone look almost the same as the old ones, but have no grease nipple. Like the lowers, they last almost for ever.
