Default Lucas H4 headlamps

Hello all,

I am not a Jag guy but was recently given a box of XJ6 parts to get rid of. They came off of a 1986. In the box was what I was told were E-code Lucas H4 headlamps for the XJ, as well as the vented trim rings and a handful of lenses.
My question is are these things worth anything? The glass looks good as does the chrome, though all could use a cleaning. The previous owner said that they're quite rare and I should be able to get a decent buck for them. I am not sure if that is the case (or maybe was, these have been sitting in the box for close to ten years)
Any input/ advice would be greatly appreciated!

Sounds like you have some 7 inch rims - hard to find . Lots of people would like to own them. The H4s s are just as desirable
Get a good price for them.

Hi Dartguy,

The H4's weren't specific to Jaguar.

Jaguar went to the universal parts bin for them.

H designated Halogen ie. better illumination than standard globes.

I had H4's on my old Hillman HB circa 1967 (Rootes Group car model which won London to Sydney marathon once) many years ago.

H4's are more expensive that standard lights, but not astronomically so and they are definitely not rare or worth more because they are for a Jaguar.

As for the headlight surrounds, a different story. They are specific to Jaguar.

Cheers,

Nigel

Thanks for the replies, much appreciated!
So what would be the best place to sell these, eBay or a forum setup like this one? Any idea what I should ask for the set?

I would say eBay, as last year I successfully sold a load of old car parts including some Jaguar stuff. I don't, however, think you'll get a huge amount for them as I found new headlamps were available, no doubt made in China or somewhere.

SNG Barratt have new 7"units for around £52 for two. I have to say, I wish modern Jaguar headlamps cost so little !!

Ideas:

1. Perfectionists have sought original parts from the beginning. Some GM addicts were known to use T5 seal beams for show, even if they didn't work!!!

2. Changing to 7" units on our Jaguars needs not only the trim rings, but the "buckets" that the lamps fit into. But, they are found in other Brit cars as well.

3. I've sold a bunch of stuff on E Bay and Craigs list. As soon as it warms a bit, I'll find some more to "lighten the load".

I'm happy with my 5 1/4" lamps so long as they light up!!
