First off, Arts, you're in the wrong forum. Jaguar made things complicated by using the model designation XJ6 for about 6 iterations of the car. Your car is an XJ40 made from 1986-1994, so best to post in that forum if you have any more questions. To answer you on the steering, only power racks were ever fitted by Jaguar to these saloons, but some people who raced them might have fitted non-power racks but from where I don't know

Thanks for the response. I have the complete front crossmember in my street rod and would like to go to manual steering rack so I can use
electric assist.

You might well be seeking something that just does not exist. A recent model, or even older Jaguar with no PS!!!

But, the one you have might be adapted todo what you want. A bit of research needed,
But, two options come to mind.

1. A simple loop on the rack from the in port tot eh put port.
2. Mereley plug the in and out ports.

The rack sans boost would be a tough steer. But, as you plan an electric assist, tht would be just right

Npw, suppose there was a mechanical rack, no PS. the mechanical advantage would be greater. So adding boost would make t very touchy.

So, in closing, you may have no issue. Proeed !!

Carl.

Arts:

Yes and no as to the engine that powers my Jaguar. It is actually an LT1. The last of the iron block SBC's. Used in several GM cars in various versions. Corvette, Camaro, Buick Roadmaster, etc. The donor car for my engine transmission was a Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham. The last of the really big Cadillacs.

Now, my curiosity is up. What is your project.

+1.
No more help until pictures of the Rod are shared!

My nephew has two SIII's for the IFS / IRS. One being installed in his '53 Chevy rat type rod with a carbed LS1. Nice arrangement for me, lots of extra Jag parts for Uncle Paul!!

Hi Carl, sorry it took so long to get back, been on a short vacation.
I have a 48 Ford Pickup street rod that had a Volare front suspension that worked real well until the two bolts securing the passenger side steering arm to Fatman Fab's dropped spindles sheared (thank God at about 2 mph pulling into a parking lot) dropping the lower A-arm onto the asphalt. Replaced the bolts but had lost confidence in the setup so I looked around and found the Jag stuff that I won't have to use dropped spindles on to get the ride and height I want. It's in now and almost finished. I got the Jag IRS too and will replace the existing independent 1990 Thunderbird Super Coupe with the jag later this year. I have 110,000 miles on the old stuff and it's time anyway.

AWWWW!! Lost my post. Short version. 5th icon from the right, one to the left of the smiley. click on it. It will take you to the page to select from where to download the attachment. I'm an old guy as well. I stumble along this cyber stuff.

Yes, I've always had an infinity for old pickups. many have graced my driveway. From a23 T way ack to a more recent 85. The latter a sick 4x4. In between, a 47 and a 49.

Two bolts in shear!!!! wow, you sure were lucky..

Carl.
