hi guys thanks for all our imput.
I noticed that my left tank is completely dry despit being filled and last week and i was using the right all week. i did smell fuel for the first couple of days but put it down to the tuning issues i was having now fixed. so a possible leak. what are the most common thing to check. boot clean.

 

Mine was leaking from the drain plug at the bottom of the tank. There are two,one screws into the other. On mine the larger one was leaking so I replaced the seal(rubber washer) I went to the local mower shop and bought a sheet of fuel resistant rubber and cut my own. Five bucks,and now I have enough spare to last a lifetime.
I removed the tank and looked for rust holes before I found this,
My suggestion is start there first,then put in a few litres and see what happens.

Did I notice you live on rural property from your pics of "lady J",if so being parked outside you may not notice a fuel leak soaking into the ground. Put a sheet of tin or plywood under the tank so you can see any leakage.

 

Yeah we are rural and not concrete slab the spare is sitting on that with no wheels. Thanks I will check that first up and go from there. I will change the seal just to make sure anyway

 

I've been using the gasket for the distributor of a 350 Chevy for years. Still no leaks. Was supposed to be just a temporary fix to get by (was all I had in my shop at the time), but 8 years later it is still holding fast.

 

Well the tank had fuel in it but ended up over me I think the pick pipe may have been blocked. Checked the filter replaced the plug but fuel in and ok. Go figure. Next problem is the fuel gauge on the right tank.
