Default no brakes

Hello .. I have an 88 xj6.. My problem is that I don't have any breaks. Seems to not be getting any help from the booster itself.. The problem started with a leak from the master cylinder.. I changed it and things haven't been the same since.. There is pressure at the pedal but very little stopping power to speak of.. Changed the booster and the hydrolic unit over on the passenger side of the car. My question here would be does anyone know of a way to change the booster over to a vacuum style setup.. I saw one such kit on line for $350 so I'm figuring there has to be a cheaper fix to my problem..
