NO initial startup after 85 xj6 sitting overnight. Needs ether.
This 85 xj6 has an initial startup problem after sitting overnight.
Needs ether. Then it will start up and runs good rest of day.
When I shut it off to go into store, then it will restart ok.
Yes, I have to feather the pedal.
Had this car since 1995. Was regular driver, now occasional use.
Everything has been replaced except the 6 injectors. 135k miles.
The vacuum is about 17, vacuum lines clamped.
Replaced Aux air, quick start injector, thermotime, fuel reg, fuel filter,
all sensors, Air flow meter awhile back, etc.
Dont feel car is reliable enough for trips.
May get rid of car because of reliability issue.
I do not want to put more money into body, paint, etc. with this problem.
Kindly assist.
Thank you.

Lot's of ways to approach this.
Attach a fuel pressure gauge and what your pressure is when you crank the engine in the morning. Should be 36 psi.
If not, post back.
Or, at minimum, at least see if the fuel pump is operational first thing in the morning. Put the gearshift in "D" and turn the key to "Start". You should hear the fuel pump run. If you don't, post back.
Of course, hearing the pump run doesn't prove it's delivery adequate fuel pressure.

Out of interest how old is the petrol. Recently me and a few friends have been having issues with things not wanting to start very well when its cold. When the engine is warm naturally it burns the fuel easier. The ether may be adding some much needed punch to the stale fuel to get her moving. What im getting at is if you dont drive the car all that often and the fuel in the tanks is only topped up every now and then then it very well may be stale. Ide run one tank empty then fill it with the highest octane fuel available and see if it makes a difference. Recently my motorbike outright refused to start after sitting over winter. I put some fresh fuel in and flushed it out and it went first kick. Fuel simply isn't what it use to be.
Its also possible that the compression is getting a bit low and struggles to ignite the fuel when cold.
Possibly the coolant temp sensor is not enriching the mixture enough, although they normally seem to go the other way.
Over time im also learning that just because its new dosn't mean its any good. However, it should still start without the cold start injector, just a bit harder.
Ide probably follow what Doug has mentioned first but there is some food for thought.
