One main beam not working...
Yep you are correct. You called them driving/fog up front and my brain latched onto the driving part. If they are dedicated fog lights, then yes they expect them to be controlled separately. So many rules ......
Hmm, and definition is another thing Steve. Many times I've heard of driving lights being incorrectly referred to as fog lights. Also, had a car brought in from the UK years ago with two aux lights on the front - one fog with yellow lens and one driving (we used to call 'em spots in those days) with white lens. Both worked independently of each other, and of the headlights. That confused Vic customs, so no messing, they ripped the wires from both lights, removed the lenses, declared it legal and released the car.
Having sorted out the failed main beam, I now have the extra front lights installed. The wiring is definitely in place from factory as Richard and Doug confirmed. Once the main light switch inhibitor was released, the last switch position now functions to operate the lights by pushing and turning the knob.
This switch position is intended for retro fitting front fogs, not driving lights, so technically I should fit coloured fog light lens. I'll will probably never use them, but they look good IMO!
Next small job is to upgrade the opticell bulb for better dash lighting all round.
Cheers,

I like the profile of yours Jim, would be nice to find originals. Do yours function driving or as fog? i.e. the rear fogs come on simultaneously and the headlights go out?
They come on withe the headlights on...didn't know about rear?
Edit..I just checked and they do come on on their own.....just learned something.

Sorry to keep posing questions Jim, but the further I get into this the more confused I'm getting. I wonder if the factory wiring set up was different on the S2, or perhaps yours were retro wired on their own circuit. Do they operate from the top switch position or through a separate aux switch? Certainly the S3 factory wiring spec is for rear fogs only at the second switch position (next to the parkers), and front fogs in sync with the rears (and headlights automatically turn off), driven from the top switch position. That is how mine work, but I do prefer your set up with them functioning independently!
Tony, I am new to jags (since March) however from what I have read in the manual that came with the car, the fog light is on the main light switch and only fronts, when on the headlights are switched off and only Parkers are on. This works on the car as per manual so can only assume they were wired to factory specs.
Ah, that explains it! the S2 is different to S3 in that mine has the extra switch position for rear fogs only, and the rears are also synced to the fronts, whereas you can have just the fronts on. Yes, parkers are on when fogs are on.
Every day is a learning curve with Jags, all good fun!!
Minor correction, the rear fog switch position comes after headlights, not parkers...

Yes learning is fun I could read about these all day....a nice change, now if you want to know about Range Rovers..1995-2002..I could answer your question in a heartbeat.....but won't be long before the jag knowledge is second nature.
Have a good day.
Have a good day.
