Just got original brochures for two of my cars (photos below). The Coventry Foundation is a non-profit dedicated to preserving Jaguar heritage. Turns out a lot of people donate their collection of Jaguar literature to the Foundation and they sell the items on eBay to raise money their scholarship program.
They were both in beautiful condition; one for my 2007 Vanden Plas and one for my 1979 series III. The SIII brochure was printed in May of 1979, right around the time the first cars were being released. It is a U.S. version (LHD, small headlights, etc). Since in America we almost always see biscuit interior, I was surprised to see they offered 5 interior colors:
Biscuit
Cinnamon
Dark blue
Russet
Black (like mine)
The photos show the dash/console with a clock and no trip computer (like my car). And it said white wall tires were standard. Ironically it goes on and on about their brand new $31 million paint facility and their great new thermoplastic paint system.
The 2007 VDP brochure even has the paint chips and leather swatches.
I highly recommend checking out their site. Get a brochure for your car and support a good cause. If you are getting up there in years and worrying what will happen to your beloved car when your gone, consider leaving it to the Foundation. Here are the links:
On the Series III note the antenna mounted at the left rear rather than right rear. I've only seen a couple of these with my own two eyes; very early cars.
Also note that the brochure touts the V12 version. This is obviously before Jaguar decided to pull the plug on marketing them in the USA. A handful landed on USA soil before the decision was made; some say as few as six.
My car was built in June 1979 with the antenna on the left side. I thought they were all that way.
Been a while since I posted. The mode selection switch on my climate control gave up. Got it out of the car and replaced the four little micro-switches today. Will get it all put together this week. Fingers crossed that fixes it.
