Default pertronix install, non-ballasted coil

1974 Series 2 4.2, going to install a Pertronix Ignitor kit and replace the coil. what is the best way to bypass the ballast resistor, as I intend to run a non-ballast full-12volt unit? use the existing positive feed to resistor as feed to the coil and tape off the loose wires?

Curt:

Never tried it on a Jaguar. but, yes, on older domestic critters.

The ballast is used in two different ways. Not sure which your car used.

1. Ballast bypassed when key is turned to crank. Coil get the full 12 volts to ease starting. When the key is released to run, the ballast is in the circuit and coil gets 6v.

2. Simplist. Ballast is always in the circuit and the ignition gets along on 6v.

But, I think your system will work. Try it. It will either run or not run!!!

PS.

Another way. Remove the ballast. Bridge the two wires that were on it together. Effectively jumping it.
