Remote Starter
I checked with several shops in the area and only one admitted to ever trying a remote starter. He said it took 2 days and never did work quite right and would never do it again. The other shops said they would not even try it. A remote door lock wouldn't be an issue.
I had a remote lock installed in my 77 coupe. When to a local stereo installer. It was a number of years ago, but it worked great. I will be re-hooking it up as I finish the restoration.

I installed an old bulldog remote starter in an ‘86 Lincoln back when I had next to no mechanical or electrical experience. It’s pretty simple- the unit is basically a relay that connects the 12v constant wire that goes to ignition with the wire to the starter relay. You can also tie that in to a door lock wire, trunk release, lights (if you want them to blink when you press it) etc.
Don’t see any reason it wouldn’t work for a fuel injected XJ6 (carbs might be tricky unless you had an electric fuel pump, since you wouldn’t have a way to prime it).
