Default Removing rear subframe

Hello Jaggernauts;

My project 'Series 2 with AJ16 and ABS'is going slowly but steady on ;-) , heve recently bought a complete rear-subframe from a 1993-XJS .
Now i want to completely replace the rear-subframe, but before i start a question: : how is the subframe mounted at the body, 2 rubber joints at the front and 2 behind the subframe, or do i missed something?

Thanks again for your support, reg., Rudy

You're spot on. There are two mounts each side at the back of the wheel arch. Then there are the radius arms that attach to the lower wishbone, so don't actually contribute to the mounting of the subframe, but have to be removed before the subframe can be dropped.

There is a lot of good info on R&R including some YouTube videos. I just took mine out two days ago to rebuild the calipers since the pistons were not retracting. I am going to retrofit to a remote bleed kit; which you may want to investigate.

How many inches did you have to raise the back of the car in order to get the complete rear end assembly out?

I allowed 18” out back but it was not enough because of the jack. So it came out the side.

As mentioned, if you take it out from the side the car doesn't have to be all that high, although I never actually measured. I've seen pics where some guys have the back of the car a mile high to remove the rear suspension. Scary !

A nice photo that shows the two mounts in postion at the back of the wheelarch, and the single stud on each of them that secures them to the subframe.

As Doug says, out from the side is easy. I probably went higher than I needed to the first time.
