Hi all,
recently got into a fender bender and had to pick up a new fender for my series 3 only problem is the outer trim (the thicker chrome strip below the striping) on my new fender which is a 85 while my xj is an 86 the trim is almost like a leather where as my original trim is chrome metal so my question is does anyone here know how to go about removing and replacing this trim? Doesn’t seem to be held in place by any screws so I’m a bit curious as to how it’s attached

the moldings are rivetted.

remove the rubber strip by pulling it and sliding it out of the aluminium extrusion, then drill the rivets and pull the extrusion.

if no rivets, then they are held by double-sided stick-on 3M tape. You will need to use a thin blade behind the molding to cut the adhesion of the tape.

 

Take one of the door cards out, put the widow up and you can get into the back side of the door panel. If you can not feel any rivets search on YouTube for removing trim that is held on by adhesive. If you feel rivets it's going to be more difficult. The rub strips were a dealer installed item (The Jaguar factory did not install them). Some dealers used rivets and others used the adhesive type.
