I've installed the PerTronics distributor D171618 and coil #45011. I am getting a spark at the coil but not to any of the spark plugs. I have removed the amplifier, should I reinstall it?

If you are getting spark output from coil, but not to plug wires, it is distributor timing or spark plug leads to cap not in correct location. If you pull center lead out of cap and get a spark from it then recheck timing and lead location on cap. The amplifier can not not help, just make sure amplifier mounting holes have been closed with 3/4" long bolt or you will get a vacuum leak.

Installation Steps

  1. Remove old distributor: Disconnect electrical connectors and remove the old distributor.
  2. Install new distributor: Gently push the D171618 distributor into place, ensuring it seats properly. If it doesn’t seat, gently bump the starter or hand-turn the crank to help it fall into place.
  3. Align rotor: Crank the engine around to No. 1 compression stroke and ensure the rotor is at the correct position (No. 1) on the cap.
Number 3 is most important to get #1 on compression stoke. The trimming mark on vibration dampener should be at 10* for this check.

Thanks again David, I finally got it going yesterday. Stupid me had the distributor set 180 out. Also appreciate letting me know about the vaccum created by removing the amplifier, I would have certainly missed that.

Don't take it too hard, I have had 3 Jags and have set my Distributor 180 out, one time also. Glad to hear your up and running.
