this is a great write up that Doug did years ago. i thought i'd refresh it. maybe he won't have to keep repeating himself as i made him do the other day. sorry Doug

i followed the steps and when i got to #5, bypassing the relay, and applied 12v directly to the solenoid, i was rewarded with the feeble engine crank followed by a lovely electrical burning smell in turn followed by smoke signals originating at the starter followed by an increasing warming positive battery/starter cable. soooo.... i just ordered my 3rd rebuilt starter from oriellys (2st installed 8/15/21, 2nd installed 10/17/21). hopefully the 3rd time will be the charm.
